Home purchase - check. Moving - check. Unpacking - five boxes to go and a couple of furniture deliveries and I am all set.

I now face east on the 11th floor and so get to see the sun RISE every day... unless it's cloudy, but even then it's not an entirely un-beautiful thing to see the sky brighten. It's trees and mountains as far as the eye can see, with a bit of urbanity thrown in so that I still feel connected to my city-girl roots. It's near the ocean. Ahhhhh....bliss. There's something about finally realizing your dream home that instills a feeling of calm. I'm not saying it's my ultimate dream home - that would involve my own private tropical island! - but it's close enough in this crazy world;) The main thing, it's secure and it's all miine.

Music and photography have been quietly sitting on the sidelines waiting for me to finish nesting, but I feel them eyeing me restlessly - they know I'm almost done and will get back to them shortly. I'll post a few photos soon to share the view:)

I just wanted to thank the musicians who commented on the essays posted on this site. Your comments are very insightful and I was so pleased that the essays got everyone thinking their own thoughts on what it means to be an artist walking that fine and precarious line between art and commerce.

Some musicians mentioned their love of music being in direct contrast with their non-love of self-promotion. Others mentioned pivotal decisions they have made to turn down a gig that paid well but didn't sit right with their values. I would love to hear more comments from musicians and artists in general - I promise to respond.

I emailed Derek Sivers to ask his permission to quote him in one of the essays. For those of you unfamiliar with Derek - he is a musician from Oregon who started a web site with a shopping cart function so that he could sell his own CD online. To make a long story short, Derek's site became CD Baby which has so far seen 80 million dollars in sales. Derek has now left CD Baby to do some philanthropic work surrounding music - please check out his web site: www.sivers.org

Sarah
